World’s Second leading Email provider Yahoo has suffered a giant data breach attack on its Yahoo Mail Servers.
Yahoo announced today, “We identified a coordinated effort to get unauthorized access to Yahoo Mail Accounts and some of the Usernames and Passwords of its users have been stolen(compromised). Our ongoing investigation shows that a malicious Computer Software has been used to access Yahoo Mail Accounts.”
On the other hand, Yahoo did not disclose how many accounts were compromised and they are not sure whether they were directly obtained from Yahoo’s Systems.
For the time being, Yahoo is taking proactive measures to protect its users data. Yahoo is resetting the passwords of the accounts which were Hacked and they are using a Two Step Verification to allow users to secure their accounts.
Affected users may receive an Email or SMS (If they have given their mobile Number) asking you to change your Passwords. Yahoo is also working with the Federal Authorities to find the culprit behind this Attack.
This is not first time, Yahoo was also hacked in July 2012 which led Attacker steal 450,000 email accounts from a Yahoo Contributor Network.
My Advice:- Atleast from now onwards, please use a Strong Password to protect your Email IDs from being compromised. Have a habit of maintaining different passwords for different websites
and enable a Two Step Verification method which will send a Verification Code to your mobile before Logging In to your account.
